5th and 6th graders have been working hard this fall! It has been exciting working with 6th graders as they develop their reading and writing skills that they worked so hard on in 5th grade. 6th graders are learning about perseverance through reading and writing. While reading excerpts from longer texts, 6th graders are working on finding textual evidence which shows examples of perseverance. They are also working on their first formal writing piece this year, a personal narrative of a time in their lives when they had to persevere.
5th graders are settling in to 5th grade routines and expectations, and we have started our first integrated unit of social studies and literacy. 5th graders are reading the book Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis, and practicing their reading fluency and comprehension while also learning about Great Depression, character traits, and the use of figurative language.
